Love, love, love these! Beautifully hand embroidered by Lauren DiCioccio, applying a focus to these objects we currently see everyday, challenging the viewers perception and the future of such materials…
The statement below from Lauren nicely sums up her work:
“My work investigates the physical/tangible beauty of commonplace mass-produced media-objects, most recently: the newspaper, magazines, office papers and writing pads, plastic bags, 35 mm slides. These media are becoming obsolete, replaced by the invisible efficiency of various technologies. In some cases, this transition is a good thing- faster transmission and distribution of information, streamlined systems, openness to user input, less waste. But a hole is left behind by the disappearance of these everyday objects. What will happen when we no longer touch information? When newsprint does not rub off onto our fingertips? When we no longer write longhand?
The tedious handiwork and obsessive care I employ to create my work aims to remind the viewer of these simple but intimate pieces of everyday life and to provoke a pang of nostalgia for the familiar physicality of these objects.”
Loving this typewriter illustration by Luke Bott, an Illustrator/Designer from Kansas. Check out his other works here. His works have an almost playful but sopisticated feel to them. Check out his dig at the recent BP oil spil in the Gulf of Mexico…

OOh, check out Philladelphia based Mikey Burton for some delicious design here. Loads of effortlessly brilliant work including some letterpress goodness. Well worth checking out!
On the subject of great American Print, I couldn’t help but mention the brilliant Hatch Show Print in Nashville, Tennessee. A 130 year-old working letterpress shop (established 1879), Hatch Show have worked in the same way for over a century and the only computer you’ll find in their workshop is that to email/take customer orders etc…so refreshing to see such beautiful work still being produced in this way despite being in such a fast paced industry where many give in to the advancements in technology…
